duration:

2.5 hours

location:

Come join us for an afternoon of Watercolor with artist Sarah Simon, TheMintGardener

Two and a half hours of Watercolor instruction, including an introduction, watercolor fundamentals, and a project to complete together. We will mail you the workshop materials or you will be able to pick them up at StudioLife.

If you have taken a watercolor workshop with Sarah before, then you know what a thorough, engaging and knowledgeable teacher she is. In this class, she will be exploring all of your favorite watercolor techniques, and adding a few too. You will explore how to ‘glaze’ and add depth to your watercolors, mix up color recipes, as well as playing with mark-making to see how incredible your round brushes really are. We will also be completing a full project in class, together step by step, so you will have a complete piece of frameable art when you are done! We will explore different approaches to watercoloring these wreaths, and learn which techniques Sarah uses to get the clean, smooth and vibrant look she is able to capture with her paintbrush. As always, Sarah will provide you with pre-drawn art, so there will be no pressure to draw anything in class. All you have to do is open up the supplies we send you, and tune in online as Sarah guides you live, real time, through the mindful practice of watercolor in these peaceful hues.

Attendees will receive the following supplies:

  • Winsor & Newton watercolor paints, including sample-size paints in each of the WN line of colors.
  • Sakura of America, Pigma 01 Micron pen
  • Blick Artist Materials, an HB pencil and two watercolor pencils.
  • Princeton Brushes #selectartiste series brushes in a Round 4 and a Round 1 size
  • Professional watercolor paper of the highest quality (140 # weight 300 gsm Cold Press) from Hahnemühle Global
  • A complete Watercolor Fundamental Technique sheet, along with the final project from the workshop
  • An Information Sheet listing all of Sarah's favorite supplies, brands and where to find them which will be emailed following class.
  • Two Hahnemuhle Global Watercolor paper postcards, along with a printout of Sarah’s line drawings that can be used to trace paint and sent to friends, to share your new watercolor skills!
